Picasa Tip: Use the BlogThis! Button to Post Pictures to Blogger

imageI’ve been using both Picasa and Blogger for over 8 years now, and yet, I’ve *never* used the BlogThis! button in Picasa.  Many people have wondered why I have such a blatant hole in my teaching of Picasa – I cover every button on Picasa’s bottom button bar *except* BlogThis!  The reason is because the BlogThis! button has always been limited to a total of 4 pictures.  I rarely have so few pictures in my blog posts, so I didn’t use that feature.

Limit of 4 Now Expanded to 20

I now see a notice in the Picasa Help Center dated 3/20/11 that claims you can post up to 20 photos at a time to Blogger directly from Picasa.  Woo Hoo!! I tried it and, sure enough, I could select way more than 4 and, when I clicked the BlogThis! button it takes me straight to Blogger, stopping to ask which blog I want to work on, and presents a large orange ‘Continue’ button.  Clicking continue takes me to a special Blogger post editor – it’s not the normal editor but pretty close.  All the pictures are there!  All I have to do now is write some words around the pictures, give the post a title, and click Publish.  The only thing lacking is captions – the Picasa captions get lost in the upload.

This is soo easy.  If you use Picasa and Blogger, now is the time to revisit the BlogThis!  button.  I see from the forums that the button is not working correctly for some folks. The culprit seems to be if you are using Blogger in Draft.  Also, know that Blogger has made it much easier to insert pictures from Picasa Web Albums as well.  So, if you can’t use Blog This!  Just upload to a Web Album.  Then, in Blogger, click the insert image button and one of your options will be ‘From Picasa Web Albums.’  Also quite simple.

Try it and comment here to let us know how it worked for you.

  1. I am happy that Picasa is now allowing more photos, however, I have been trying to update my blog for the past several days and I can not get my photos to post to the blog, I was only trying to post 4 and not more. Is Picasa having a problem?
    Thank you,

    1. Make sure you are not using Blogger in Draft … see the link to Picasa’s Help Forum in the article for the thread about people having some problems with this.

      1. I am having the exact same problem over the last week. I am not in draft. The posts are going to draft but I go in and change them back to publish and the photos no longer show either way. The posts will show but not pictures.

      2. I am still having trouble getting my photos to post to my blog. I spent all day Friday and tried everything and still no luck. I even tried to post to a new blog, but still would not work. Not sure how to get my photo that I have uploaded to the google web albums to post to the blog. It is very trying as I have sent out this blog to my family and friends for several years now.
        Thank you for your assistance,

      3. Check you blog’s settings and be sure you’re using the new post editor – then you can add from Picasa Web Albums directly to your blog post with Blogger.com.

  2. Hi Chris – along with many others we have suddenly found ourselves unable to post ANY photos from Picasa to Blogger via ‘Blog this’. I have using this feature without a problem for years.
On one of the forums it says that the problem is being fixed – but that seems a long time ago now.
I have exhausted all the ‘try this’ suggestions from Picasa but to no avail.
I would love to send more than my usual 2 or 3 photos to my blog.
If you hear of any real solution to this problem please let us know.

    1. Gary,
I am not having the problem so, if you’ve followed all suggestions on Picasa forum, I really can’t add to that.
      BUT
It really is *very* easy now to get pictures from Picasa Web Albums to a Blogger Blog. This is relatively new, so you may not have tried it.
      1. Using Picasa, upload the desired pictures to a web album
      2. Using Blogger, create or edit a post, click the ‘Add Image’ button, In ‘Add Image’ select ‘From Picasa Web Album’ and select the album.
      3. Click and Ctrl Click on all the photos you want to add, then finish with ‘Add Selected’
